Treat Our Barn As Your Own!

You all would have laughed last night.

For the first time since we have moved to our new place we had horse boarders for the weekend-8 of them-A FULL HOUSE! We were VERY excited! Hubs worked most of the day to make the barn shine (or as much as a barn can shine)-seriously it is the cleanest I have ever seen it. Thanks Hubs! And the Little Lady helped as you can see!!!

Yesterday (and today for that matter) was COLD. Add the wind on top of that and it is miserable. It was dark when the first four horses (and there owners) arrived at 10 pm (but we didn’t mind as we were super excited to have them come to our place). We have a huge hill down to the barn so the long horse trailers with living quarters have a hard time turning around. Parking at the top or backing down is the only option.

Since it was dark I thought I would help them take the horses down to the barn since they parked at the top. Out comes the first horse bundled up so much that I couldn’t even tell what color they were. Horsey jammies, neck and body blanket and tail wraps on every horse. They looked really cute and warm. Warmer than I was! I was actually thinking being all wrapped up would feel great about then. The wind was blowing mock 50. It was blowing my coat hood off-and I was cussing silently because it was COLD (seriously I need to step outside in advance and find out what I need to wear!!!)

Our super warm visitors helped us in two ways this weekend: 1). of course we made some $$$! 2). We realized how FUN it is to meet other horse owners that love their horses as much as we love ours!

Hubs says that this picture of the barn (that he took) does not really show how clean he had the barn-but I told Hubs, “Now we have horse guests so it doesn’t matter (I did say it lovingly!).

What a weekend we are having!

HOME AT LAST!

As a real estate agent I strive to find that PERFECT home for my buyers. I want the buyer to say “I LOVE THIS HOUSE!” I want the buyer to remember the first time they walked into the house that fit them so well and the feeling of excitment when they knew “this house was the one.” Also as a realtor I have found many houses I love (and always have the feeling when I find a new home for the fam) and our family has moved 6 times in 7 years! Each time fixing up the property and after moving either renting or selling! Hubs laughs at me when I tell him I had the feeling we belong in the house. But it has worked out for us each time!! At our current home the stall barn is where I had the feeling that WE HAD to live at this place! After being in the barn the first time I turned to Hubs as I was jumping up and down and said I HAVE TO HAVE THIS PLACE!

Most of the time I am a mover and a shaker! I like to have plenty to do with work and kids…But at my current house-moved into 3 months ago-I find myself wanting to stay in and around my home and barn. I have a gorgeous view of the mountain from both upstairs and downstairs. There is something about the barns and land of this HOME that calms me, makes me want to be a better person than I am, makes me want to build our lives here instead of fix up and move on! Today I feel as though I could sit here at my desk (looking past my hillbilly wood pile) and look at the beauty of my land (and others) and not even work! Yes, laugh on…I do work most of the time!

Friends and family tease me that we will never stay at any house long-but this time they most likely will be wrong! I feel I have solitude (and country privacy!) at this great place. This time I have found my fam a long time HOME!

My Graceful Gal!

Sometimes my main mare, Zoey, is my graceful gal. Yesterday morning she gave me a run for my money! She hasn’t been ridden for a couple weeks so she has to remind me why I need to ride her more often.

When hubs and I purchased our first rural property I search high and low for my perfect horse. Finally I found Zoey. I think the first time I saw her, a ray of sunshine shined on her through the riding arena where I was going to try her out. Now I know the reason that I was attracted to this mare is that she is EXACTLY like me; a little rough around the edges, a little sassy AND VERY (here I almost wish I could say a little) high strung.

My dad likes to tell me that I would be complaining that she was boring to ride if she didn’t give me a little guff!
One of my favorite traits of my graceful gal is that she carries my 4 year old little lady like the precious cargo she is. When we first got Zoey and put her in the stall she would put her head out the stall door down to little lady’s level so she could pet her. It is like Zoey knew what to do with the little lady.

Since Zoey I have added many horses to my “collection.” She is one of my two go to girls for most of my riding!

My mom use to tell me “Life is lumpy” when something didn’t go right (Mom I love you!). That was one of they many things I use to tell everyone that I WOULD NEVER SAY! HAHA! The first time I said that to one of my peepettes, and every subsequent time I say it, I quickly cover my own mouth-shocked it comes out. AHHHHH!

From Peepette 10 year old: “We worked with the show boer goats today. Goats and I may be cold due to the winter snowing weather! (Basically I am freezing my butt off!). The goats may be warmer than me because of their hair. One goat’s name is Linebacker and the other is hearts. I shoveled snow in my jammies for the goats. I shoveled a figure eight in the snow so they could run around!

And I think the Wild Woman of the West (aka MOM) should call me the Jr Peepette. ”

Wild Woman of the West: I love that my JR PEEPETTE wants to be a part of this blog with me. I LOVE that he wrote the above paragraphs about the 4-H goats. It got me thinking about the responsibility of 4-H. We all take great care with this meat goat project. Two years ago after several months of the meat goat project the above JR Peepette had a very hard time letting go of the market goat. After a year off (last year he showed pigs with the now called Senior Peepette-12 year old) he decided he missed showing goats.

This year, so we could keep one, Junior Peepette chose a wether and doe. So the wether will serve the meat purpose and the doe will keep us all happy when the other is gone…

I am still practicing the conversation with our favorite vet when I ask him to artificially inseminate the doe goat a year from this September. This way we can get a GREAT sire to receive a GREAT show goat! The vet may faint…but I was thinking…sheep, goat…not too different…I hope!!!

The positive part (remember the hubs is extremely OPTIMISTIC) is that the Jr Peepette can raise his own show boer goats. I am so excited how this teaches Jr Peepeette the gift of life and that he can raise his own show animals and slowly grow his herd.

Mom is so proud of her peepettes!

Every member of my family is apple users and most likely abusers. We LOVE our iPhones, iPods, iPad etc. It is humorous to me that we all (I am included in that WE) are so attached to our iDevices. I run two businesses off that fantastic machine called the iPhone. I am not sure how my businesses could EVEN FUNCTION without it! The main positive is that I can leave town and still stay connected. The negative is that I can still stay CONNECTED!

Since these devices use all sorts of apps, there are a TON of passwords. Then another layer of protection on the passwords is the security questions! So I am really happy to have the extra security-BUT the one prob is that if I don’t remember the security questions FOR my peepette’s (kiddo) iPhone. GRRRRRRRRRR! So I trying finding the answer via the internet-NOPE! So I sent an email. It remains to be seen if I can actually figure the prob out! The only positive thing I can see is that it saves me money the longer my peepette doesn’t have the answer to the security questions (I have been trying to find the positive in EVERY situation as the hubs does!).

I always think that I can “remember” the usernames and passwords I set up, but rarely do. Thankfully the peepettes remember their own passwords for their iPhones and iPods. I seriously don’t think I could remember their passwords when I can’t remember my own.

SERIOUSLY. Life is all about these freaking passwords. Passwords to get into the real estate systems, emails, kindle, facebook, twitter and just about EVERYTHING! Sometime my own stuff is so secure I can’t even get in…

Can a dog bone be too BIG?

Chihuahuas are one of the best breeds EVER. I have always wanted a little dog, but never had one. About 10 months ago I found one online in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. After convincing hubs that we needed a second dog (that was an inside dog); after over 3 hours on the phone with the owner making sure she was potty trained (hubs REQUIREMENT); and making sure she fit our kiddos, we met a lady in Chugwater, Wyoming. Right after the lady hands ICY to me she says, “I forgot to tell you she might be pregnant.” WHAT! ARE YOU KIDDING!

I turn directly to the hubs and ask, “WHAT THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO DO NOW?” I am genuinely surprised when he says, “Get her anyway.” At this point I am thinking that he is crazy or just wants to get this dog because A). He knows I have already fallen in love with her (I like this thought the best), OR B). He is just thinking about this inexpensive Chihuahua.
If he thought B he had a rude awaking when poor little ICY had a C-Section in the middle of the night (while hubs was sleeping). And he probably passed out (as I did) when we got the bill for a C-Section in the middle of the night.

Miss ICY had 5 pups. Only two ended up making it (too long and too sad of a story of my pre-mature pups). The three kiddos, hubs and I couldn’t let those little pups out of our sight and now are part of the fam! The little girl is Loretta Lynn and the little boy is ANGUS. Loretta definitely likes hubs better than me, BUT ANGUS is my little guy!

Which brings me finally to my point! Angus is the smallest (at 2.7 lbs-his sister is almost 8 lbs). (And yes a farm girl can have a VERY small dog). He LOVES and I mean LOVES chewing on rawhide bones. And he doesn’t care what size. I was running out of bones today so I gave him one of the larger ones I had. He didn’t miss a beat. He just went crazy chewing on it. He even argued with his sister (in a very snotty way) when she was trying to share it with him.

So I think next time I go to the feed store I am going to buy a dog bone larger than him and see what he does!

I bet he takes it on with the attitude (He may be little but he is mighty!) that he can CHEW IT UP!

To Buy or Not to Buy-that is the question?

The answer today was BUY and BUY! I was in a local western store today trying on SKINNY jeans to go with my NEW BLACK fancy boots (I have been looking for BLACK boots for months and haven’t found any I actually LOVE enough to purchase before today). I just had to have the SKINNY jeans to go with those boots to show off how amazing the tops of the boots are-at least that is what I told the hubs. Thankfully he didn’t point out that I already own skinny jeans! Of course he probably knew that I would have a rebuttal to that as he knows me well!.

Thankfully hubs knows of my clothing fetish (again I mean that is a good way). I LOVE clothes. My closet is fairly full (I can always find room for more!). Almost every piece of clothing I buy is at least 50% off-and sometimes up to 90% OFF!!!. I am a VERY frugal shopper-I LOVE THE HUNT for the BEST deal! Most of the women in the family are the same way. Call us cheap or call us frugal, we do not care-but we do care how much money we save!!

Today was a little different than normal as I was shopping at a place in town that really doesn’t have a sale rack-but they have the BEST BOOTS IN TOWN! (Actually I wonder if hubs thought I had finally lost it since shopping at full price).

I just could not resist the BLACK skinny jeans as well as the BLACK boots-western and fancy mixed all together! You can see my boots and I am sure you would agree-
THEY ARE F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!

This time the hunt was for the perfect black COWGIRL BOOTS (and skinny jeans) so I still feel VERY HAPPY!!

Horsey, Horsey, Who Has a Horsey?

Ever since I was very little I wanted a nice, expensive horse. It took about 30 years but I finally got exactly what I wanted. My little lady (smallest child) caught on VERY quick at then two years old. She became infatuated with horses-and by infatuated I mean live horses, pictures of horses, figurines of horses, stuffed animals of horses, games with horses (HORSES ON IPOD) ect…

Recently she went to my bestie’s house for the evening and came home wanting fuzzy horses. Good thing I helping Santa get my bestie’s kids the fuzzy horses so I knew what the hell they were-after being reminded of course-ya I know-something I should have remembered. So thankfully our trusty go to site had another set (by set I mean TWELVE MORE FIGURINES of horses) that could be two day shipped for FREE. (I love free shipping and deals on stuff-and-I can’t help it as I come by being frugal genetically).

I wish I could find all the horse figurines in my house so I could actually publish how many we have. It may be a new record. (I have been working on a record of my own for real horses in the barn but we won’t talk about that).

My little lady is starting riding lessons soon. She already thinks she knows how to ride but it consists of her going where the horse wants to go. But at least she is riding by herself (WITH A HELMET ON). I have taught her a few things but as we all know the little ladies do not learn best from the MOMMY!

I have also always wanted to run barrels. While I am working on that, I of course (as most competitive parents do) want to live (at least a little) through my kiddos! So I ask my little lady if she is going to run barrels on a horse when she grows up-she says (and has since she was two) that she will run barrels ONLY if she can also do breakaway roping. Yes she has know what breakaway roping was since she was 2.5 years old. I am so glad that she has the horse fever like me…even if it means we have 500 horse figurines!
